Job Description:

Elevation Recruitment Group are working with an established engineering business specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of complex lifting, materials handling and process equipment. As part of continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of the electrical engineering content of projects, developing control system designs and specifications from concept through to manufacture, installation and commissioning.

The role will involve working closely with customers, project management, mechanical engineering, production, procurement and site teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to specification and within agreed budgets.

As Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical engineering and control system design of bespoke equipment and projects, ensuring that technical requirements are fully understood and translated into practical, compliant and cost-effective solutions.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing electrical designs, control system designs and technical specifications for bespoke engineering products and projects.
• Taking technical ownership of the electrical engineering content of projects from initial concept through detailed design, manufacture, installation and commissioning.
• Producing and reviewing electrical schematics, control system documentation, wiring diagrams and associated engineering documentation using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Developing control solutions incorporating motors, drives, control panels, instrumentation, sensors, relays and other electrical/control components.
• Applying knowledge of low-voltage motor control and speed-control applications to develop effective engineering solutions.
• Ensuring electrical designs comply with relevant legislation, standards, customer specifications and project requirements.
• Developing a strong working knowledge of applicable crane and materials handling industry standards.
• Considering functional and machinery safety requirements throughout the design process, including BS EN 13849 and BS EN 61508 where applicable.
• Coordinating electrical engineering activities with site, applications and design engineering resources to meet project technical requirements.
• Managing the engineering content of projects against agreed budgets, including design hours, external engineering support and site engineering requirements.
• Working closely with production and procurement to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and commercially effective.
• Providing technical support during manufacture, installation, commissioning and project delivery.
• Acting as a key engineering interface between design, production, procurement, project management and site installation teams.
• Liaising directly with customers and their engineering representatives to understand technical requirements, resolve issues and agree design solutions.
• Reviewing technical documentation, specifications, drawings and contractual requirements to ensure the engineering solution meets the agreed scope.
• Attending customer and project sites where required, providing technical support and resolving electrical engineering issues.
• Supporting the wider engineering team with technical guidance and contributing to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
• Working collaboratively with mechanical engineers and other disciplines to ensure effective integration of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Carrying out other appropriate engineering duties as required by the Engineering Manager.

You will be accountable for:

• Delivery of the electrical and technical content of projects to time, cost and quality requirements.
• Ensuring electrical designs meet customer, contractual, legislative and engineering requirements.
• Effective coordination between electrical design, mechanical engineering, production, procurement, installation and commissioning.
• Providing technically robust and commercially appropriate engineering solutions.
• Managing electrical engineering resource and design activities within agreed project budgets.
• Supporting successful installation and commissioning by providing clear, accurate and complete engineering information.
• Maintaining strong communication with internal stakeholders, customers and external engineering partners.

The successful candidate is likely to be an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in industrial engineering, controls, machinery or materials handling environments.

You will ideally have:

• A degree or HNC/HND qualification in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical engineering experience.
• Proven experience working within an electrical engineering/design office environment.
• Strong experience producing electrical designs and technical documentation for industrial equipment or machinery.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
• Experience with electrical control systems and low-voltage motor control applications.
• Knowledge of relay logic, control circuits and industrial electrical systems.
• An understanding of machinery safety and functional safety requirements, ideally including BS EN 13849 and/or BS EN 61508.
• Experience within materials handling, cranes, lifting equipment, heavy engineering, machinery or a similar industrial environment would be advantageous.
• An understanding of project engineering and the commercial considerations associated with delivering engineering projects.
• The ability to interpret customer specifications, technical documentation and contractual requirements.
• Experience working collaboratively with mechanical, production, procurement, commissioning and project teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
• Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with customers and engineering representatives.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• A proactive and constructive approach, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• A willingness to travel to customer/project sites when required.
